Designing passes

Starting from a template

Updated June 29, 2026

You don't have to design a pass from scratch. Passmint ships with eight starter templates, each already built on a sensible pass type and styled so it looks good out of the box. Starting from one is the fastest way to a polished pass.

The eight starters

  • Event Ticket — concerts, conferences, and shows.
  • Conference Badge — attendee and speaker badges.
  • Course Pass — classes and training.
  • Gym Membership — fitness and club cards.
  • Coffee Loyalty — stamp and points cards.
  • Discount Coupon — offers and promotions.
  • Museum Pass — admission and exhibitions.
  • Generic Membership — a flexible all-purpose card.

What "starting from" actually does

Picking a starter clones it into your account as a brand-new, fully editable template. The clone is a deep copy, so:

  • you can change every color, image, field, and the barcode, and
  • nothing you do touches the original starter or any other template.

From there it's your template. Edit it as much as you like, and issue passes from it when it's ready.

Even if none of the starters matches your use case exactly, clone the closest one. Restyling an existing design is quicker than building from an empty canvas, and you inherit a working field layout and barcode setup.

Starting from your own templates

You can also clone a template you already made, which is handy for spinning up a variant. See archiving and cloning templates.
