My pass won't install (iPhone)
Updated June 29, 2026
If tapping Add to Apple Wallet doesn't add the pass on an iPhone, one of a few things is usually going on. Work through these in order.
Open the link on the phone, in Safari
Pass links install directly on a phone, but on a computer they show a QR code instead, because there's no wallet on a desktop. Make sure you're opening the link on the iPhone itself. On iPhone, opening in Safari is the most reliable; some in-app browsers (inside a chat or email app) don't hand off to Wallet cleanly. If nothing happens, tap the share icon and choose Open in Safari.
Update iOS
Very old versions of iOS can struggle with newer passes. If the phone hasn't been updated in a long while, install the latest iOS update and try again.
A passcode must be set
Apple Wallet requires the iPhone to have a passcode or Face/Touch ID set up before it will add certain passes. On a phone with no passcode at all, the add can fail. Set a passcode in Settings, then retry.
Check storage and try once more
A phone that's completely out of storage can fail to save a pass. Free up a little space and try again. A simple retry also clears up the occasional transient glitch.
Still stuck? Try adding the same pass on a different iPhone. If it works there, the issue is specific to the first device's settings rather than the pass itself.
If there's no Add button at all
If you don't even see an Add to Apple Wallet button, that's a slightly different problem. See "Add to Apple Wallet" isn't showing.
If none of this helps, contact whoever sent you the pass. They can re-issue it or check that it was created correctly.
