Active pass limits and overages
Updated June 29, 2026
Each plan includes a number of active passes. This explains what happens when you reach that number, so a busy week never catches you out.
Reaching the limit on a paid plan
On Hobby, Pro, and Scale, going over your included active passes doesn't shut anything down. Passes keep being created and installed, and you pay a small overage rate of $0.01 per additional active pass. When you cross the limit, Passmint notes it and lets the organization owner know by email, so there are no surprises on the invoice.
Overage charges are prorated to the time left in your billing period, so you only pay for the extra capacity for the days you actually use it.
The Free plan is different
The Free plan has a hard cap and no overage. When you reach its active-pass limit, you'll need to upgrade to a paid plan to keep issuing passes that count. Free is meant for trying Passmint and small projects, so there's no per-pass billing on it at all.
Remember that only live, installed, non-voided passes count toward your limit. Test passes are always free, and voiding or removing a pass frees up room. See what counts as an active pass.
Staying ahead of it
- Watch your active-pass count on the distribution dashboard.
- If you expect a spike, such as a big event on-sale, consider moving up a plan beforehand so more of your passes fall within the included allowance.
- Void passes that are no longer valid to keep your active count accurate.
Where charges show up
Overage and subscription charges appear on your invoices. Manage them and download receipts from the billing portal; see manage your subscription and invoices.
